WooCommerce Integration

  • updated yesterday

WooCommerce is an open-source software solution that is most commonly used to help create and launch fully functioning online stores.   While it is somewhat rare to have a client ask to integrate WooCommerce with our platform, we have had clients ask if we can and what the capabilities are if they choose to do so.  Below you will find what capabilities of this integration are, what some of the limitations are, and some talking points we can use with clients.

What the API integration CAN do

  • Allows WooCommerce to send Kotis an order (shipping information, item information, etc) in real time
  • Pulling data points like
    • Inventory - they can pull product names and inventory values
    • Place orders - ability for them to send in new orders
    • Order status - see details of existing orders

What the API integration CANNOT do

  • Pull item data such as images, product information (price, categories, etc)
    • Note: To work around this, we can send the client product images through email
  • Pull shipping costs (this is something the client would have to set up in WooCommerce)
  • Transfer any credit card or payment data to Kotis for Customer Service use

Client talking points

  • With WooCommerce, Kotis acts ONLY as a warehouse/distribution center, and product sourcing company for that portal.  All other aspects of setting up an E-commerce store is the responsibility of the client
  • When speaking to a client about integrating our platform with WooCommerce, a good practice is to collect what goals they are looking to have with this integration.  This can help us speak to if what they are looking for is something we can accomplish or not prior to setting everything up
  • It is the responsibility of the client's developers to build all of this on their end so they can implement it however they see fit.  This is not something Kotis would build, as we only provide the documentation on what our system supports
    • We have a lot of clients that have asked for a working session with our tech team to help build this for them, which is something we cannot do
